Turnips

Nutrition Benefits

Vitamin C: helps heal cuts and helps the immune system.

Low in sodium: may help reduce high blood pressure.

Selection

Turnips are generally white with a purple top. Select heavy turnips without soft spots and fresh leaves if still attached. Small to medium ones are the sweetest.

Storing

Store turnips in a plastic bag in the refrigerator for only 2-3 days since they get bitter with prolonged storage.

Cleaning

Scrub under running water to remove all soil.

Preparing

Peel and enjoy them raw or cooked.

Slice them and add them to a salad or vegetable tray.

Place whole turnips, halves, or slices in a baking dish and cover. Bake at 350⁰ for 45 minutes, or until tender.

To enhance the flavor of turnips, use garlic, coriander, cumin, chili powder, or cardamom.
