Selection

Choose chard with fresh green leaves. Avoid leaves that are pale yellow or discolored. Chard stems come in various colors including pink, purple and yellow.

Storing

Store unwashed leaves in plastic bags in the crisper drawer in the refrigerator for 2-4 days.

Rinse with cold water.

Preparing

Young chard leaves have a sweet taste like spinach, so chard is often used like spinach. Use the small leaves in salads. The older leaves are a good substitute for cooked spinach in various recipes.
