A Refreshing Summer Treat!

This summer our house has turned into playdate central! Most weekdays we have an extra kiddo (or several) at our house. I never realized how much 7-year-olds could eat in a two-hour time span until this summer! With all these planned and unexpected playdates, I try to keep plenty of snacks and drinks on hand so no one leaves our house hungry.

Most of our days are spent outside playing in inflatable pools and running through splash pads. While everyone is having fun, I have learned that getting kids to stop playing to drink water is quite challenging. To help keep everyone hydrated, I love making a big pitcher of Fruit Slush. Serve it in fun plastic cups with twirly straws, or even a tiny umbrella, and you have a refreshing, healthy treat!

The recipe calls for cantaloupe or watermelon with kiwi, but we have also made this fruit slush with a variety of berries and peaches. You really can’t go wrong with any fruit combination you try! If you would prefer more of an Icee-style drink, try blending in some ice or using frozen fruit. This creates more of a slushy consistency while keeping the drink cold during long afternoons playing outside.

This recipe is great for adults, too! My husband and I enjoy a Fruit Slush after finishing yard work or after our kids are in bed and we can play a board game or two. For a fun, elevated touch, I like to add a sugared rim to our glasses.

Whether you’re hosting a playdate, relaxing after a day outside, or enjoying a date night at home, fruit slushes are a yummy and versatile treat. Give this refreshing drink a try this summer!
