Have you ever played a game where you can only choose one food to eat for the rest of your life? If you asked my oldest daughter what that favorite food would be, I could guarantee that her answer would be ice cream! Each week when I put together a grocery list, ice cream is one of the first (and only!) items my daughter will add.
Buying ice cream each week can get a little expensive. To offset the cost, and lessen some of her sugar intake, we often make Banana Ice Cream at home. It’s so simple and tastes great! This is a great recipe to involve younger kids in the kitchen- my preschooler loves to help slice the ripe bananas and my oldest has made it her job to pick out the toppings for the table.
Banana Ice Cream combinations my family loves include:
- Chocolate- add cocoa powder to the bananas before blending to make chocolate ice cream, or top the blended bananas with chocolate chips for added crunch
- Tropical- top banana ice cream with crushed pineapple, cherries, and coconut flakes for a fruity twist
- Classic- top ice cream with whipped cream, chocolate syrup, chopped nuts, and/or sprinkles. Don’t forget to add a cherry on top!
- Breakfast ice cream- top with granola or whole grain cereal and extra fruit to enjoy ice cream for breakfast
Next time you want a sweet treat at home, give Banana Ice Cream a try!
