Meal Plan Inspiration: How to Find Ideas When You’re Stuck

meal planning ideas

Does anyone else’s mind go blank when you start to make a meal plan, and you can’t think of anything to write down? Or is it just me? Some weeks the ideas just pop into my head. Other weeks I struggle with deciding what to make. Here are four things I do to help me think of ideas for my meal plan.

  1. Ask my family for ideas: Katy mentioned this in her blog a couple of weeks ago and I think it’s worth mentioning again. I haven’t always been good at doing this but it’s something I’m starting to do, and it has been helpful. A couple of recipes that were requested recently were homemade pizza using our Whole Wheat Pizza Crust and Tamale Pie.
  2. Saving recipes on my phone: On our Spend Smart. Eat Smart. app, I click the heart icon on my favorite recipes, and they are saved under My Recipes for easy finding. Then when I am making my meal plan, I look through those recipes for ideas. For other recipes I find online, I save them in the Notes app on my phone. I made a folder for recipes and organize them there.
  3. Sharing recipes with a group of friends: I have a small group of friends who share recipes with each other. When we discover a new family favorite, the recipe gets shared with the group. It’s nice to know someone else has tried a recipe and liked it.
  4. Think seasonal- Now that it’s spring, I’m changing out soups and other winter meals with recipes for the warmer weather. My husband loves roasted asparagus. Soon it will be in season again and I can start adding it to my meal plan.

Happy Meal Planning!
