Upper Body and Lower Body Strength Workouts with Iowa State Athletes
January 20, 2025 | Jody Gatewood

Last week I shared about our new Cardio Workout video on Spend Smart. Eat Smart. This week I’m sharing about the new Upper Body and Lower Body workouts led by Iowa State athletes.
Morgan and Maya are both players on the ISU Women’s Volleyball Team. For the Upper Body workout, Morgan leads you through a series of exercises to strengthen your chest, back, shoulders, biceps, and triceps. All you need is a pair of light dumbbells or water bottles. In the Lower Body workout, Maya takes you through a series of exercises to strengthen your legs and glutes. This is a body weight workout so no equipment is needed.
Strength training has many benefits and can be done in the comfort of your own home. Lean muscle mass naturally diminishes with age. Strength training can help preserve and enhance your muscle mass at any age. This is important in helping to reduce the risk of chronic conditions including back pain, arthritis, and diabetes. Strength training can also protect your joints from injury and contribute to better balance. Overall, strength training can enhance your quality of life.
