The Comfort in Homemade Bread

homemade bread

Last week Katy shared about the comfort homemade soup brings to her and her family. As I thought about one of my comfort foods I thought of homemade bread. I come from a long line of bread bakers. Growing up I have memories of making whole wheat bread with one grandma and oatmeal bread with another grandma. And my kids know my mom almost always has some sort of quick bread made when we go to visit. Banana bread is a favorite. I find comfort in making homemade bread, smelling it bake in the oven, and eating it warm out of the oven with butter or peanut butter.

Spend Smart. Eat Smart. has some great bread recipes. Our No Knead Whole Wheat Bread is versatile and can be made into one large loaf, 2 smaller loaves or into dinner rolls. The Banana Oatmeal Bread recipe is a great way to use up ripe bananas. It can be made in a loaf pan, 9-inch by 13-inch baking pan, or in a muffin pan. Both of these breads are great to have for breakfast, as a snack or used as a side dish.

Is there a particular kind of bread that brings you comfort? Share with us.

Check back next week for our final blog of 2022 to see what Christine’s favorite comfort food is.
